The function returns an approximate match. If is_sorted is TRUE (which is its default value)… In most cases, this is the desired behaviour. If there is no exact match, you get an error. If the first column of the range contains 2 or more values that exactly match search_key, the fist value found is returned. It’s TRUE by default, but it’s should be set to FALSE when your range is not in sorted order.
